Mighty Self

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

The greatest attitude is gratitude.

Profound is the wound in my heart.
More profound still, is the love.

The Final Initiation: without need of fame, money or worldly power,
just from the quiet, mighty presence of Self, finding the ability to change the world.

The Spin

Monday, February 27th, 2006

When everything in your head starts turning too fast,
Spin in the other direction.

Dreams

Save not your dreams for sleep.

Heart

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

The first time I saw her face,
My heart pounded,
And I can still remember
How it sounded.

Colonel of Wiz Dumb - part 24

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

From the swamps of Hollywood evolved Homo Automobilis, a species specially adapted for the highways of Los Angeles: enlarged posterior (provides extra cushioning for long periods of sitting), prehensile flap of skin underneath the ears (to hold cell phones), double jointed middle finger (facilitates communication with other drivers).

Beauty or Wisdom: choose one.

Most of us repeat the same 24 hours of experience every day.

Do you know anyone who just can’t let any sentence go by which sounds unenlightened without providing instructions on the correct way to speak? Man, are they irritating.

Although a cause, desperation, is never a justification for abuse.

The secret, mystical message behind The Wizard of Oz: “There’s no place like home.”

Colonel of Wisdom - part 23: love, sex, art evolution

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Evolve or perish.

Art must not only be created, it must find a place in the world to reside.

Sex does not obstruct spirituality. Obsession with sex, does.

The spiritual lesson you must study next is no mystery; it is the challenge before you: devotion, confusion, frustration, loneliness, love, discipline, courage…

As Kundalini awakens, strong sexual desire may erupt. The Yogi should neither suppress nor obsess over these desires. Enjoy it, free it from attachment (that hot body stretching next to you) and let it flow into joy and illumination.

Frustrated trying to find love? Create a community of loving people. Then, everyone gets to enjoy the love, including yourself.

Hating your violent, greedy, sexually crazed, animal self will not make it go away. Hate will only hew a schism making reconciliation with this ancient part of yourself impossible.

Colonel of Wisdom - part 22: Kings, Assumptions and Bart Simpson

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

I have been unable to get the “Itchy and Scratchy” theme song out of my head, where it has been playing over and over the last few days. Life doesn’t get much worse for a classical musician.

Presidents and Kings may be above the laws of Man, but they are not above the Laws of Karma.

Question assumptions.

Religions based on Truth, welcome the skeptic. The Truth will not only survive critical questioning, it will be revealed thereby. Could it be that religions that demand unquestioning faith have doctrine that is questionable?

Colonel of Wisdom - part 21

Friday, February 10th, 2006

There are those who understand certain things are not to be touched. Then there are those who insist on getting their grubby finger prints all over my computer screen when pointing at the images.

Say only the truth and whatever you say will come true.

Government officials should be humble, efficient administrators who serve the public - not all-powerful leaders. We are mature enough to lead ourselves.

Arrogance and meekness are at either ends of the arc described by one swinging pendulum.

The more you can slow down and enjoy eating wholesome food, the less you will try to find enjoyment snacking on junk food.

Fussy parents stifle
the joyous swagger of their children.
Let your children get messy.
Let them make their mistakes.
Don’t doom them to a life of worry.
Let the children play.

If you practice Magic with goodness and devotion, you will become Magic.

Colonel of Wisdom - part 20: Obsession

Today’s topic: O B S E S S I O N!!!

Face It
Baboons are obsessed with bright red, swollen rear ends. Good thing we have evolved beyond such primitive behavior. Our obsession with pretty faces is far more sophisticated.

Like rewinding and re-watching the same confusing section of a DVD, our psyche loops over and over the places where it is perplexed, the places where it is in pain - to try to understand, to try to find relief. So routine is this repeated viewing, it becomes a forgotten presence. A numbing trance descends. Thus, obsession is born. What section of your life do you keep replaying?

Obsession evolved as a learning technique to help animals understand a complex and, at times, overwhelming world. That crude method is obsolete. We have better learning technology.

Want to know how much obsession there is in this world? Go to the ocean and look at the water. That’s how much.

Make peace with obsession. For God’s sake, it’s everywhere - sex, money, addiction, appearance, accomplishment, status, etc., etc., etc. OK, now expel it from your life.

Art is the opposite of obsession - creative, not habitual action. The former flows from inspiration, the latter, predictability.

Obsession simulates companionship. Even if it is a sham, some prefer it to the sharp icicles of loneliness.

Obsession leads to arrogance. Assuming an attitude of superiority protects the ego when it can’t obtain the object of its obsession.

Colonel of Wisdom - part 19: Music, The Path, Random Stuff

Monday, February 6th, 2006

You’re nobody until somebody who’s somebody says you’re somebody.

Music can only enter into silence.

I think we should put musicians in charge of the country and make all the politicians wait tables. The trains may not run on time, but life will be a hell of a lot more fun.

The real question is, “Why do good things happen to bad people?”

You find evidence that your Path is a crooked one. Enter: existential crisis. Years of your life have been wasted. Do you let Pride goad you into continuing your wrongful ways? After all, you have condemned others for not following your path. Or do you say to yourself, “I made a mistake - perhaps a profound one. Who would have thought, just like everyone else, I too am human.”

Mother; don’t smother.

Drinking the juice from inside pepperoncinis is reputed to impart great spiritual blessing.
